Set global variable from within a Class

From within a class instantiation, I'm trying to set the value of a global variable. Let's call that variable "x". I know I can do this window.x = 5; and it will work but I really need to do this: x = 5; The above works in Firefox 2 but not in IE6. Actually, I'm trying to do this eval("x = 5"); For reasons that are too long to explain, I can't do this eval("window.x = 5"); (which I realize would also work) because I can't alter the variable name. It has to be "x" Any thoughts on how I can do this within the scope of a Class I know this is non standard and might seem odd or inadvisable but it's a long story that will be solved if someone can help with my problem.

Log global namespace

. Using the Firebug console is there a way to log the content of the global namespace I particularly want to recognise when something is added to it by my code. I could step through my whole code but I'm hoping there is an easier way. Andy.

Storing a selected item into a global variable

An item is selected from a list and then used as a variable in a PHP script to identify and retrieve some data from a specific record in a MySQL database. Here's the code for the select script (first a javascript external file, then an html file) : /* This is placed in an external file, addingOptions.js */ var otherStuff = { "item 1" : [ "subitem 1.1", "subitem 1.2", "subitem 1.3", "subitem 1.4" ], "item 2" : [ "subitem 2.1", "subitem 2.2" ], "item 4" : [ "subitem 4" ], "item 6" : [ "subitem 6.1", "subitem 6.2" ] }; function select(listName, selected) { var listBox = document.getElementById(listName); for(i=0; i

Applying local values to global varables

I am new to Javascript and am not sure how to go about doing this correctly. I am trying to update the value of a global variable inside a function, but it doesn't seem to be working. The value of the global variable I access keeps its original value. . Heres what I am doing. I have created a global variable with a null value. I then sent form information to a function with the onsumbit event. Within this function I want to give the global variable a new value of the variable I sent to this function. However, my implementation of this isn't working. Heres a code example: var phone; function getName(phone) { var phone = phone; //other code makeArray(); } function makeArray(){ alert(phone); // returns undefined //other code }

Inserting dynamic values into Javascript variables

, I've been using PHP and MySql for some time now but I am quite new to Javascript. I would like to know how it is possible to insert data stored in a MySql database into Javascript code. For exmple, I am working on a travel guide site and would like to have a Google map for each location that is featured. I want to store the map grid reference for each location in the database and insert that value dynamically into the Google Maps code when a specific location is requested by the user. Anyone have any ideas how this can be achieved Many

Problem w/ onsubmit and hidden variables

Trying to get this code to insert javascript variables into hidden fields in form using "function populateHiddenFields(f)" . Any thoughts on what I have wrong onsubmit command variable definitions i cant seem to close the loop. No error, just no variables inserted. iGz-test | iGz :: Forms var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) "https://ssl." : "http://www."); document.write("" + ""); var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-1-1"); pageTracker._trackPageview(); // // This is a function that I "borrowed" from the urchin.js file. // It parses a string and returns a value. Can you assign multiple variables at once?

Is it possible to assign multiple variables at once For example: var int1,int2,int3,int4,int5 = 0 I'm just wondering because I did this without thinking and my program never gave me an error and everything worked fine. Is it because these variables are set to 0 by default or what If it does work, are there any other languages that this works in such as vbscript

Generate variables for elements dynamically

, I was wondering if there would be a way I could generate elements dynamically using something like this, where qtyElements is an array of all the elements that start with qty. var qtyElements = document.getElementsByName('qty*'); for(var i = 1; i < qtyElements.length + 1; i++) { // var name is cqty + whatever number at i is var cqty + i = qtyElements[i - 1]; }, so would a regex work to get the pattern out so we get the ones that start with qty

Can javascript do session variables?

I've been searching around the web since I don't have my library of books available right now -- but here's my question... can I do a purely javascript session variable without the use of PHP, ASP, or anything else Any good resource pages on that I just need to do simple setting, reading, and removing. The intent was to use Javascript so that I don't have to change any file extensions - other suggestions are welcome though.
