How do I throw an error from a stored proc

Hi... Because the library I'm using to wrap my stored procedure calls (PDO) helpfully throws exceptions on MySQL errors, I'd like to leverage this to throw a deliberate exception. Really I'd like something like... Code: create procedure throws_an_error() begin -- error here end I could do a select on a missing column. Something like... Code: begin select error; end ...but it's hardly maintainable . Is there some command where I can go... Code: error "It's all gone wrong"; yours, Marcus

error code 1054 - Unknown column

Have 2 tables in my data base. Can fill 1 successfully that has int and dec columns. The other with just text columns keeps throwing up 1054 errors. I am using the command Code: insert into table_name (column_name1, column_name2) values (text_data_1, text_data_2); The error I get is 'ERROR 1054 Unknown column in field list'. I have looked for syntax, config. errors and trawled through my book but it does not appear obvious to me at least. Any help greatly appreciated. I have attached a screenshot of the table description and the command sequence I am using plus the error message.

Help with configuration error please.

I'm trying to install MySQL 2.0.5.5 on Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Once I get to the configuration wizard stage, and I press execute, it gives me: Could not start the service MySQL. Error: 0 I've spent a very long time searching Google, forums, Usenet etc. for answers to this query. Lots of people have experienced it, and there don't seem to be any working solutions out there. I've done the following (to no avail): - Removed the service (using "sc remove mysql" at the command line). - Tried different service names. - Opened the port MySQL wants to use. - Changed the port to another open port. - Disabled my firewall. - Tried starting MySQL from the command line. - Tried different versions of MySQL. - Tried rebooting the PC and all the usual stuff. None of it works, I continually get that error. Can anybody offer a working solution to this problem I would appreciate it very much. Or offer a better/equal alternative to MySQL that can be easily integrated with PHP.

Numrows error using TOP 50 PERCENT

, I'm using MySQL to hold a simple blog. I'd like to display the top 50% on one half of the page, and the bottom on the other. I'm using the "SELECT TOP 50 PERCENT" query, but having issues with a "Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource" error coming up. I know my code works fine for other selections (i.e. the right database and table etc...) but I can't figure out what the issue is here, though I'm guessing it my be something like I've not supplied a "total rows count" command so it's not sure what it's doing 50% of. Here's the code - Code:

Export error

Hi , I have a corrupt block in a production database(9i). In that Database a table named info which has about 300,000 rows has one corrupt block.I have successfully exported the production by using FULL = Y. But when i tried to import the same export file in a test environment, it was imported but the info table has only 100,000 rows. It seems as the corrupt block was reached the import terminated and started importing the next table. But when i used Direct = Y to export and then used the same file to import. I was able to get a less than 300,000 rows which means the corrupt block was lost which has 111 row in it. Can anyone explain what exactly happens when Direct = Y is used
