Promotion of sites with flash content

Is it possible to successfully promote and gain result for a site having full of flash content in search engines , Google can crawl Flash, but there are issues: It's more work so Google may crawl it less or not even bother. Google can find the text within the flash but can't easily work out the context of the text. So most likely Google will just index a bunch of sentences it finds without knowing how they fit together or relate. This is unlike html where Google can pick up signals like the order of the text, what is classed as headings, how the text is grouped and what links to what. A single Flash file often represent sets of content that would normally be represented with multiple html pages. Google cannot work this out so will index all that content as one page. With html you can get each subject matter indexed separately so Google can send people straight to what they want. Google cannot send people to specific parts of a Flash file (Unless some clever tricks are used). This means visitors will always have to start at the beginning and find the content they were looking for. This is a poor user experience.

Tagging flash text as H1?

I'm working on a site in which the first visible line of text at the top (the product title) is going to be flash specifically, the text will read from a separated XHTML file, but the presentation on the product page will be all flash. From an SEO perspective: Ideally I'd want that text to be the H1, but the Flash issue is tripping me up. If that text doesn't actually live on the page, my concern is that rendering this line H1 would effectively tell the search engines that H1 = nothing. Am I overlooking something here What options do I have

alt content for flash

I wondered if I can add an alternative text description to my flash animations in the same way I do for images. My thinking is that this would be a good way to add keywords, and would provide information for browsers without the flash plugin. Is there any way to do this Do I just add a text between the tags Any advice would be great! Cheers DD

Optimizing a website

1. i am working on a new website as of now it has only 1 page and before i make the site live in terms of getting links to my website would it be a good idea to create an account in major websites like facebook, twitter and other social networking sites and in the profile page if i have a link pointing to my website from my profile page on these networking sites, will this help search engines find my website quickly as compared to if i did not have a link 2. using the word site followed by domain name we can find which pages a search engine has indexed of a particular website like site:www.domain.com also using the link we can find the total number of links that are pointing to a specific website, so i used link: www.domain.com and link:www.domain.com but i guess this is not the correct syntax can anyone tell me the exact syntax to find out how many links are pointing to a website

Bing just dropped a website/is this a sandbox effect?

So i recently checked out a website that has been getting a lot of organic traffic from bing and recently i see that the website is not even listed under bing when you search for its complete URL. Is this a result of that sandbox effect and is it normal for some search engines like yahoo and bing to drop websites and then get them back up I just wanted to learn more about this and get some information on what that effect is called. Would it be sandbox or am i completely wrong Thank you

A question about flash deep linking and cloaking

Hi recently i read the article (webmonkey.comss/tutorial/Optimize_Flash_for_Search_Engines_With_PHP) It was an informative article on how to show different content to search engines and users and also how to seperate my flash files into seperate pages that could then be bookmarked and indexed separately (deep linking). The problem i had was that google could not read my xml data and further i wanted to allow google and users to index/bookmark seperate pages out of the flash file (deep linking). Basically the php script allows me to create a page such as products.php . So say someone goes to products.php what the php script does is firstly detects whether the visitor is a search engine or whether the visitor is a user. The php script uses $HTTP_SERVER_VARS["HTTP_USER_AGENT"] function to check who the visitor is. If the visitor is a search engine then it will load my products.xml file into the page as well as other relevant information such as links to other parts of the site and some of the opening paragraphs of the products page. If the visitor is a user then i will send them to index.php with with various 'flashvars' such as (index.php=products&movie=product1 then the user can go directly to the flash page of their choice. What this script means is that: 1. search engines can index the flash site based on its particular pages 2. users can go directly to particular pages without having to navigate from the flash homepage 3. search engines can view the content of the website more accurately (for example by seeing the xml data) My problem is that i have been reading some of google's policy now after spending countless hours setting this up, that this may be considered cloaking. Cloaking is generally considered " a black hat search engine optimization (SEO) technique in which the content presented to the search engine spider is different to that presented to the user's browser." I cant see why this would be the case because i am not offering different content, i am offering exactly the same content (though saying that, while there has been no additional content added I have subtracted some content from the search engine page such as some of the text used on the flash page in the search engine generated page). Is this a case of cloaking How can I get around this One way that has been suggested is to make the pages that the google sees completely the same as the flash content but this is impossible because google does even see dynamic data from flash (xml loaded for example).

Best SEO strategy for tag and author based website?

Are there best strategies to optimize SEO for tag and author-based websites e.g. stackoverflow.com I understand that site structure needs to be even, so Google can crawl and notice changes easily. However index based website (e.g. tag or author) cannot guarantee symmetric distribution of pages - as users can create pages that bank on one index heavily.

Dynamic websites: How do they affect page ranking / search engine crawling?

all! I'm working on a dynamic site with php, and I want to make one page called "news.php." What this page will do is read information from a mysql database and print it. "Page 1" has say 10 news articles, and all clicking page 2 does is tell the php script to load articles 11-20, though you're still technically on "news.php." My question is this: Will google and other search engines recognize "page 1" and "page 2" of my news.php page as two separate pages and read the content from both, or will it only see 1 news.php and completely ignore all of my other articles beyond the 'first page' of news.php
