Urgent - How to implement a two-databases-on-one-host architecture?

We need to create two production databases for two different store, they will have the same load. We only has one physical db box running HP-UX 11.x. We have three plans, we want to know which way is the best from performance standpoint, and which way is the worst from performance standpoint. 1. Create two db instances on the box, create one database/schema on each instance. 2. Create one db instance on the box, create two databases/schemas on the instance. 3. Logical partition the box into two logical machines. Create one instance on each logical machine, and then create one database/schema on each instance. How difficult to implement Plan 3 We may not have enough time to implement it if it is too complicated. Between Plan1 and Plan2, which one is better

ADVICE: Should I use MySQL views or implement XML!

Hi everybody: Im a real beginner in ASP.NET and Databases; Ive attended a programmers course few years ago, but at the moment I m not good enough!!! This for my is a new beginning! :) Now Im involved in a project that requires MySQL interaction, and Im designing (or programming) the front end interface. SCENARIO: Ive a MySQL database. (Now... Imagine a Webpage.aspx). I have a table inside the page with 2 rows: The first row has 3 columns... yes, cells!!, and the another one has no columns. In the first cell (1 row, 1 column) I have a treeview with a panoramic of my database (Treeview-Datasource: XML file that I build by myself with the hierarchy of my database). Then, in the 2nd cell (1 row, 2 column) I have a Radiobuttonlist; the aim of this cell is show only the name of every data placed in the selected entity (located in the treeview). And in the third cell (1 row, 3 column) I have 3 buttons: the first one is "NEW" (Should create a new item in the entity of the database - selected in the treeview) the second one is "EDIT" (Should edit the item of my database_entity selected in the radiobuttonlist) And the third one is "SAVE"... (No words!!) PROBLEM: In the fourth cell (2 row, unique column)I have a FormView. To fill data, to arrange it in two columns, and to show textboxes allowing me introduce information to perform the button actions. Im new in this, but Ive seen that probably, I can make it using views (programming them in the database) or using XML files (declarating and querying my database as well as I want) But, in any case, the two ways requires build a view or xml file for every entity of my database that I want modify. Im Sure that all of us know a short method or something... but please!! I need help... I have only 20 days to do that!!!

Trying to implement MAA on 4node race(urgent)

Subject: Trying to implement MAA on 4node race RDBMS Version: 10.2.0.3 Operating System and Version: Solaris 5.9 Error Number (if applicable): ORA-12154 Product (i.e. SQL*Loader, Import, etc.): DATAGUARD Product Version: 10.2.0.3 Trying to implement MAA on 4node race Can anyone clarify my questions related to RAC & DATAGUARD. We are trying to implement 4node physical standby, our primary is a 4node RAC. How does oracle ship the archive logs and apply at the secondary(physical standby). Does we need to mount all the instances on the physical standby or only one instance what we have done is mounted one instance recovered the primary database at physical standby. We are currently shipping the logs manually and recovering at the physical. we are hoping that the automatic shipping of archive logs and recovery at the physical, will catch up when its current. Is my assumption correct\t On the primary we see the following eroors: Redo shipping client performing standby login OCIServerAttach failed -1 .. Portal 3.0.9 repositoty and 9i Infrastructure Release 2 implementatio

In a white paper name Oracle 9iAS Portal Release 2- Preparation for upgrade, it talks about how its possible to runa Portal 3.0.9 repository with the Portal Release 2 infrastructure (in different homes). I am trying to establish that, but I need any papers or scripts on how to make that happen I know is that I need the portal 3.0.9.8.4 patch, but I'm still trying to dig up info.

RMAN backup retentions & policies - implementation and management

I have some questions on RMAN backup retentions and policies. My requirements : Regular day to day backup retentions : 30 days Quarterly backups : 2 years Year end backups : 7 years backups will be 'online' or 'hot'. My Questions : 1) How do you (DBA's) typically manage deletion of backups (database, archivelogs, others) on a periodic basis Do you let the backup tool (say Netbackup or Tivoli Data protection for example) take care of this by setting retentions there Or do you setup RMAN scripts to do this It appears that a lot of DBA's choose to do the latter..but I wonder why Isn't it one less thing to do for the DBA, if s/he lets the backup tool/vendor take care of it Yes, the recovery catalog will then be out of sync since it will indicate that certain backups (say 6 months ago) still exist, when it reality the tapes might very well have been reused after 30days by the backup tool/vendor. But then, can't you simply verify (or crosscheck), do a "delete expired" and resync the catalog instead 2) How do you typically manage quarterly and year end backup retentions Do you set separate "retention policies" (with keep / nokeep cluases) for these and then issue a "delete obsolete" How do you ensure that the backup software vendor doesn't automatically reuse these quaterly/yearly tapes

problem implementing updateable materialized view...help needed!

hi, I hv been trying to implement the above function using the example from oracle website as follow but i am not too sure 1) the 'orc1.world' is it the dblink name or the tnsname in the tnsnames.ora 2)assumming the prob in 1) is the dblink that was specifically connecting to a user...i then encountered problem at DBMS_REPCAT.CREATE_MVIEW_REPGROUP stage where STMDDBLINK is my dblink name to a remote database ...these are the error "ORA-06550: line 1, column 8: PLS-00201: identifier 'SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_UTL2@STMDDBLINK' must be declared ORA-06550: line 1, column 8: PL/SQL: Statement ignored ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00201: identifier 'SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_UNTRUSTED@STMDDBLINK' must be declared ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_UTL", line 2394 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_SNA_UTL", line 1699 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_SNA", line 64 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT", line 1262 ORA-06512: at line 2" 3) Assumming it is the tnsnames in tnsnames.ora ...i encounter error at the same DBMS_REPCAT.CREATE_MVIEW_REPGROUP stage ...with the following errors where "Mview_grp" is the name i specified and i used a valid tnsname in my tnsnames.ora to point to a remote database...I wonder what have i missed outany guru can enlighten\t "ORA-23313: object group "PUBLIC"."MVIEW_GRP" is not mastered at stmdgb ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 105 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_SNA_UTL", line 1690 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT_SNA", line 64 ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_REPCAT", line 1262 ORA-06512: at line 2" ================================================================= Oracle website on creation of updateable materialized view ================================================================ Updatable Materialized Views You can make a materialized view updatable during creation by including the FOR UPDATE clause or enabling the equivalent option in the Replication Management tool. For changes made to an updatable materialized view to be pushed back to the master during refresh, the updatable materialized view must belong to a materialized view group. Updatable materialized views enable you to decrease the load on master sites because users can make changes to the data at the materialized view site. The following is an example of an updatable materialized view: CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW hr.departments FOR UPDATE AS SELECT * FROM hr.departments@orc1.world; The following statement creates a materialized view group: BEGIN DBMS_REPCAT.CREATE_MVIEW_REPGROUP ( gname => 'hr_repg', master => 'orc1.world', propagation_mode => 'ASYNCHRONOUS'); END; / The following statement adds the hr.departments materialized view to the materialized view group, making the materialized view updatable: BEGIN DBMS_REPCAT.CREATE_MVIEW_REPOBJECT ( gname => 'hr_repg', sname => 'hr', oname => 'departments', type => 'SNAPSHOT', min_communication => TRUE); END; / ================================================================
