New domain extensions questions

. I've been looking at what's happening with the new domain names, and as far as I understand, those names will basically not be sold like they are now. As in, some of the big corporations will have filed for control of some extensions such as .news and no one else will be able to use them. And they will not be reselling them. Did I misunderstand

2 Domains to a new site - best practice?

I have just built a new website and have purchased 2 domains for it, the .co.uk version and the .com version. What i'm looking to do is have both the domains point to the site, having done some reading i can see a few options but being new to this side of things i can't get my head round it all properly! A 301 redirect seems to be the generally preferred option, however this always seems to be in relation to existing pages where people don't want to loose or incur penalty's on their page ranking etc... However, i don't have any page ranking as yet as the site will be going live once i figure the best way forward with this issue. So is a 301 still my best option If it is, do i have to purchase a 2nd hosting plan so i can assign 1 domain to each and place a .htaccess file in one or the others root directry\t Purchasing a 2nd hosting plan wouldn't be my preferred option as obviously i'm increasing my costs. I have registered the domains and taken hosting with the same company, HeartInternet, they offer the ability to configure an automatic redirect for one of the domains but will this be classed as duplicate content etc. and will i then incur penalty's with search engines I have also read about Domain Mapping, this generally seems to be in relation to blogs but it seems that this would also achieve my goal of having 2 domains pointing at the site... again though i am unsure as to the consequences of setting it up this way in terms of adverse affects with search engines. Any advice on my best way forward with this would be much appreciated!

Advice on new server

I am looking to upgrade my server because I have been hitting and going over the 2 core load limit for the past few months. My current config: 1x Intel \ 2.4 GHz 1066FSB - Conroe \ Xeon 3060 (Dual Core) 2x 146GB:SAS:10K RPM RAID 1 4GB RAM I am currently looking at the following, but I have some questions: 2x Intel Xeon 5335 2.0 GHz Quad Core Processors 2x 146 GB 10K RPM SCSI/SAS HDD RAID 1 4GB RAM 1. I am wondering if the speed difference between the 10K RPM SAS drive and the 7200 RPM SATA drive is worth the $40/mo difference. 2. I want to use Redhat like I am using right now, but I have Redhat 4 and there is the option for Redhat 5, would it be advisable to move up to 5 or not 3. Going along with Redhat, I can also choose between 32-bit and 64-bit. I know 64-bit is supposed to be faster, but would I run into problems such as with compatibility if I go with 64-bit

advice needed for new webhoster

hello, I am looking for a webhoster which can offer me below specs. I prefer normal webhosting, not VPS or dedicated server because of the high cost and insufficient experience i have with hosting my own domain. - Linux/Apache - MySQL 5 - PHP 5 - unlimited outgoing email traffic through SMTP (no spam ofcourse but email through webforms like refer-a-friend forms etc.) approx. several thousand outgoing email a day. - fast load of website My current webhoster only allows 200 outgoing emails a day which is will not work for my website. A well-known provider like Dreamhost.com allows 100 emails an hour (2400 a day) which is much better but still insufficient. I hope someone can advice me to a good hoster which allow for example 10.000 + outgoing emails a day.

Looking for a new host. Guidance needed please...

Last month my site exceeded its allocated bandwidth of 60gb by 21 gb and I incurred a hefty bill for the privilege. 60gb is the largest shared plan my host offers, so i'm starting the stressful search for something which will accommodate my requirements better. I'm going to need 150-250gb bandwidth. My phpbb database is growing quite rapidly. The last full db backup i did last month was around 350mb so the host is going to have to allow anything from 800mb's upwards to be future proof. I'm just fishing around for any suggestions really. theres so many offers out there, so many that are usually too good to be true and so many mixed reviews of companies! Its just a big headache for me at the moment. I can post my awstats if it will be any help.

Looking for a new host, any recommendations?

We are unsatisfied with our current hosting company. The service is good, but they don't support PHP 5, or Ruby on Rails. Any recommendations as to what a good host is in terms of quality service, and latest programming languages

Old site, new domain

, I have a small site that generates some decent adsense revenue and I recently found out a great keyword-specific domain for it is available and I'd like to get it. I'm just confused on the right way to do this. Let's say I currently have the site at ilikecars.com and the new domain is just cars.com. Is it better just to have cars.com point to ilikecars.com Or move all my files over to cars.com and have ilikecars.com point to that to cover all the links that might still exist Many

Looking for new hosts

, I am posting here as I am looking for a new webhost. Please find below all my requirements, and if you think your company fits the bill - or know of a company that does - then please post the url here (or even better with a customer support number.) One rule : I refuse to pay premium rate support (e.g 123-reg.co.uk) Mandatory Requiremements. Root Access Server. (dedicated, not just a webserver / shared hosting) 100Mbit Connectivity. UnMetered B/W (or damn large 1200gb / month + only). Windows 2003 Web Edition or better. 40gb HDD (Do not really need more, but of course bigger is better). Ability to request partitioning. (c:\ and d:\ required as physical partitions). Ability to have escalation plans lodged incase of hardware failures. Decent, non premium rate, 24/7 customer support. No port restictions as I require a large number of ports open. Wish List SQL Server included. (any edition is fine). Free Lapdance (can hope). --------------- Finally I would be looking at one server to start, with another shortly after, and if all goes well the transfer of 3 more.

domain name just expired, but cannot renew

I have a domain that I registered last May and it's just expired by 2 days now. I want to renew it but the vendors site (bookandhost.com) haven't responded to my email for a couple days after I contacted their support when I had trouble renewing through their panels. I got application errors and cannot log in to renew by myself, and now their support are tardy. I like the domain and want to keep it, but am now concerned someone could take it from me because it's expired. Can this happen or is their a cooling off period meaning it's still mine It expired 2 days ago. And can I take any action to get it renewed somehow even though the registrar is not advising me

In the market for a new hosting provider

I have become dissatisfied with iPowerWeb as I am now unable to load text files into my db's through PHPMyAdmin. I cannot get a straight answer from them as to why this has changed. I'd be happy to load it from the command prompt if they offered that, and the LOAD DATA INFILE method is locked down as well. They offer a buggy script that apparently does'nt support my tables design. So, I am in the market for a new hosting provider. I am looking for customer testimonials, not marketing pitches. Please no affiliate links or shameless plugs from hosting companies. Here is what I am looking for: 1. Linux/Apache 2. MySQL 3. PHP 4. Support for loading text files to MySQL either through LOAD DATA INFILE (either from the command prompt or a script) or PHPMyAdmin. 5. Web stats 6. Extreme reliability BTW, this is for my onlineshoppingexpress.com site. I have multiple other domains hosted by them that I would eventually move as they come up for renewal, so a multiple domain solution would be nice.

Urgent Help required regarding renewal of domain name

I'm rather suprised to learn that one of my domain names has just expired. WHOIS still displays my contact details for the domain name even though my ownership expired a couple of days ago. Because of this, when you run the domain name through a regular website, it still says it is taken and it can not be bought. My question is, how can I renew my domain before it goes on sale to the general public
