Checksum Problem

Hi , Using below codeI am calculatingChecksum : Public Function GetChecksum(ByVal sfile As String) As String \t\t\t\t\t Dim stream As FileStream = File.OpenRead(sfile) \t\t\t\t\t Dim sha As SHA256Managed = New SHA256Managed() \t\t\t\t\t Dim checksum As Byte() = sha.ComputeHash(stream) \t\t\t\t\t Return BitConverter.ToString(checksum).Replace("-", String.Empty) End Function This code works fine. But now I have new requirement that instead of file name I have to calculate Checksum by passing object of file Type which has all the information about file. Like in below code : Public Function GetChecksum(ByValobjFileInfo AsFileInfoSegmented) As String \t\t\t\t\t Dim stream As FileStream = objFileInfo \t\t\t\t\t Dim sha As SHA256Managed = New SHA256Managed() \t\t\t\t\t Dim checksum As Byte() = sha.ComputeHash(stream) \t\t\t\t\t Return BitConverter.ToString(checksum).Replace("-", String.Empty) End Function The problem is I dont knwo How I can use 'objFileInfo' object to assign it to FileStream object or convert it to Filestream Object.

VBscript to create t-sql script depending on value in Excel cell

I've spent a couple of days writing and debugging this script, but I'm thinking there has to be a better way to do this. What it does is checks a column in a spreadsheet for empty values, if it is empty, then it writes a query to pull the data from the database, then concatenates the temp query results to a final file. I couldn't think of a way to write an actual SQL query to pull all data into one result file. This could either go into VB or into SQL, but it's a little of both actually. If an SQL can be written to do this, I think it depends on the capabilities of VBscript and vice-versa. dim oPut,x,log,result,line set oXL=CreateObject("Excel.Application") set oWB=oXL.WorkBooks.Open("C:\temp\inputfile.csv") set oWS=oXL.ActiveWorkBook.WorkSheets(1) set fso=CreateObject("scripting.filesystemobject") set oShell=wscript.createObject("wscript.shell") 'set xlLen=oXL.ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count fso.CreateTextFile("C:\temp\query.csv") oPut = "" for x=2 to oXL.ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count oPut="" if oXL.Cells(x,45).Value="" then sDate=formatDateTime(CDate(oXL.Cells(x,34).Value),2) DOB=formatDateTime(CDate(oXL.Cells(x,43).Value),2) FN=trim(oXL.Cells(x,40).Value) LN=trim(oXL.Cells(x,42).Value) oPut = "select pat_lastname, pat_firstname, pat_birth_datetime, actual_proname, actcase_start_datetime" & chr(13) & chr(10) oPut = oPut & "from casemain as p" & chr(13) & chr(10) oPut = oPut & "inner join casepro as q on p.casemain_id = q.casemain_id" & chr(13) & chr(10) oPut = oPut & "where p.pat_lastname like '" & LN & "' and q.sched_proname = '" & sDate & "' and p.pat_birth_datetime = '" & DOB & "'" set qmsql=fso.createtextfile("c:\temp\qualitymetrics_query.sql") qmsql.writeline(oPut) qmsql.close result=oShell.Run("sqlcmd.exe /Sservername /Uusername /Ppassword /ddatabase -h-1 -k2 /ic:\temp\query.sql /oc:\temp\temp.csv",1,true) set oStream=fso.Opentextfile("C:\temp\temp.csv",1) set oSQL=fso.opentextfile("C:\temp\query.csv",8) do while not oStream.AtEndOfStream line=line & oStream.Readline & NewLine loop oSQL.writeline(line) oStream.Close oSQL.Close fso.DeleteFile("c:\temp\query.sql") end if next sdate=Nothing DOB=Nothing FN=Nothing LN=Nothing oPut=Nothing oXL=Nothing oWB=Nothing oWS=Nothing fso=Nothing oShell=Nothing x=Nothing log=Nothing oXL.ActiveWorkbook.Close oXL.Application.Quit

Creating an application that calls other programs and apps

So I am familiar with VBA as far as using it in Access and Excel to format data and build programs. I have a program in Access that can perfrom a few dozen different tasks..many forms and Subs. I am using MS VB 6.0 now and I want to build an app that can be run without opening Access that can call my Access program and run the proper programs. Since this is my first attempt at creating a program that isn't geared towards data formatting, I'm going to run in to a lot of new commands and challenges. My question here is simply, does anyone have a link to any good reading material that can get me started and maybe point me in the direction of where to start. Also, if you have any tips for me, that would be great too! As always,

Reading Data from the RS232

Since I last posted this problem I have managed to narrow it down. This program collects information from the RS232 and places it in a Textbox. Now each data string that is placed in the box has a start which is as follows: -I-: Retrieving Flash Memory Settings -I-: etc...... When this data has been received in on one textbox then I want the next data to go into another box. The following data looks like this: -P-: -71.4 dBm -P-: etc................. I have managed to get the data running into two Textboxes but when I try to split the data looking at the string for the (I) or the (P) then I get a failure message. I am attaching the program ina running condition with the split code blanked out with ' . I just hope someone can help, I have been trying to get this solved for a couple of weeks now. x & y axis chars are not sustained

I'm trying to generate a financel graph (price versis time) & have utilized the Panel1_paint sub. I draw the rectangle, mark the grid markers & then draw the grid lines - all straight forward. I then go onto mark the x & y axis with prices & dates. Originally this was OK. However my database contains over 2k bits of data that I want to plot & display. At the moment I start off with 40. So I introduced a button - Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click inc_counter = inc_counter + 10 start_pos = inc_counter plot_x_axis_flag = 0 Me.Refresh() End Sub Yesterday, this worked well. I could shift my dates on the x axis by 10 days. Today, for some unknown reason, this does not work. I can see is the x & y axis chars flashing up - every time I press the button. Help. I need to be able shift up & down my database & to be able to display this in the panel widow.

TicTacToe game

, I'm trying to make a small Tic Tac Toe game with visual basic 2008, my previous version had 9 buttons, created in the interface, and the only code i had was super simple code for the buttons if you clicked it. now I'm trying to make a Tic Tac Toe game that creates when you start the game(all by code): the 9 buttons as play field 1 button for a new game and a scoring label. my question is, i don't really know how to get the winning options, i so far created the code that if you start the game, it will create 9 buttons(the play field) the buttons are from a special class which knows when you press any button, which button it is( i tested it out with labels, it will say 1,1 or 2,3 etc.) i created an integer named turn, which declares the turn. if it's 0 then when you click any button, the text will change to X, and if it's 1 the text will change to O the integer cant be greater then 1, it will automatically return to 0. but for the scoring, i don't know, what kind of code to create for this problem: if you have 3 X's in a row, then the score for X should gain 1, sounds logical to me, but i don't know how to create the code for it, so it will automatically see there are 3 X's or O's in a row maybe someone knows the problem and can help me Public Class MainForm Public turn As Integer = 0 Public Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'creating buttons Call createbuttons() 'other code: 'like a New Game button 'Score counting 'Wich player begins 'Stuff like that End Sub Private Sub createbuttons() Dim sizo As New Size(25, 25) Dim loca As New Point(25, 25) For i As Integer = 1 To 3 For o As Integer = 1 To 3 Dim butto As New Buttonno butto.Location = loca butto.Size = sizo butto.arow = i butto.acollum = o Me.Controls.Add(butto) loca.X += 28 Next o loca.X -= 84 loca.Y += 28 Next i End Sub End Class Public Class Buttonno Inherits Button Public arow As Integer Public acollum As Integer Private Sub Buttonno_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Click If MainForm.turn = 0 Then Me.Text = "X" MainForm.turn += 1 Me.Enabled = False If MainForm.turn > 1 Then MainForm.turn = 0 End If ElseIf MainForm.turn = 1 Then Me.Text = "O" MainForm.turn += 1 Me.Enabled = False If MainForm.turn > 1 Then MainForm.turn = 0 End If End If End Sub End Class Ehm, I posted this in the wrong topic it should be in VB.net, can i change it myself This post has been edited by Garnaal: 04 September 2009 - 06:13 AM

Find formula value

, I am having trouble with a message box program I am working on in an Excel spreadsheet, and there are 2 issues: 1) I can get the message box to show if I put an actual number in the cell, but I want to have a formula in the cell instead that will change to 1 if another column has a specific value in it, and if the cell with the formula's value equals 1, then the message box appears. For example, I want to be able to type "" in the same row in Column V and the corresponding cell in Column R to show a value of 1, and the message box to appear. 2) No matter how many rows on which the formula shows the value to be 1, I only want the message box to show up once, that is, only for the last (latest) time a value (in Column R) changes to 1. The way it is now, if there are 4 rows in the range with a value of 1, I have to click the OK button 4 times before it disappears.

Vb6 ComboBox

I have a table in Sql Server Tbl_outdirection_dtl which have the following fields with some sample data, OUTYEAR, OUTNUM, OTSERNO, Di_Code, St_Desc, ContRecnum 1431 100 1 309 Under Process 3200001 1431 100 2 310 Saved 3200002 1431 100 3 301 Waiting for Result 3200003 I designed a form for this, for outyear and outnum textbox, Di_code and St_desc Comboboxes, ContRecnum is an Identity column in sql server. The process is, Suppose if i want enter a new record for the OUTNUM 100 with different Di_Code and St_Desc, first i enter OUTYEAR,OUTNO in textboxes, then I am selecting the Di_code from the comboBox and the selected value's I am listing in to the list box, then i am selecting the St_desc from the second comboBox and click on the save button. The problem is, when i am inserting a new record with different outnum like 200 then what are the values i have given, the same values storing in the database, but when I am trying to insert a record with the OUTNUM 100, Di_COde 320, St_code as Finished, in the Database it is updating st_desc as FINISHED for all the previous records which have outnum 100. The OUTPUT is like OUTYEAR, OUTNUM, OTSERNO, Di_Code, St_Desc, ContRecnum 1431 100 1 309 Finished 3200001 1431 100 2 310 Finished 3200002 1431 100 3 301 Finished 3200003 1431 100 4 320 Finished 3200004 The code which i have written is Str = "Select * from Tbl_OutDirection_Dtl Where OutYear = " & Txt_OutYear.Text & " And OutNo = " & Txt_OutNo.Text & "" Set Rs = OpenQuery(Str) For i = 0 To Lst_Di_Code.ListCount - 1 With Rs .AddNew !OUTYEAR = Txt_OutYear.Text !OUTNO = Txt_OutNo.Text !St_Code = Cmb_St_Code.ItemData(Cmb_St_Code.ListIndex) !OTSERNO = Get_Max("Tbl_OutDirection_Dtl", "OtSerNO", "Where OUTYEAR = " & Txt_OutYear.Text & " And OUTNO = " & Txt_OutNo.Text & "") !Di_Code = Lst_Di_Code.ItemData(i) .Update End With Next i Rs.Close Please suggest me what i need to change in this code or how could i write it better as I am new to this vb6. Your help will appreciated..... This post has been edited by modi123_1: 06 December 2010 - 09:27 AM Reason for edit:: use the code tags..

Make a deck of cards?

I am making a program that will help me card count (for school). It will play Hi-Lo, in which all that needs to be done is for me to click a deck or command and for the next card to show and I guess if the next card will be higher or lower. I'm then going to add stuff that will keep track of correct and incorrect guesses and the like...but never mind that for now. The problem is, I don't know how to get the deck to work. I have the card images (imgCards(0-51)). And...I have tried various method, but none have worked right (some only deal one card only (2 of spades, actually ... maybe because that's imgCards(0)) and no matter how many more times I click on the deck nothing more happens. Some other methods crashed the program (I used a Do Loop but it had no end). The only code I have now is code to randomize the deck and this is it (will this work): 'suit order is spades, clubs, hearts, diamonds 'discard pile: top = 480, left = 2520 Dim arrDeck(1 To 52) As Integer Public Sub ShuffleDeck() Randomize 'Makes it so the starting seed is different Dim CardCount As Integer 'This will be my loop counter Dim CardVal As Integer 'This will get assigned the random value CardCount = 1 'Resets card count to 1 Do While CardCount < 53 'This sets every slot in arrDeck to -1 arrDeck(CardCount) = -1 'so that later I can tell if the slot is empty CardCount = CardCount + 1 'or not Loop CardCount = 1 'Resets card count to 1 Do While CardCount < 53 'Loop until every slot is full 10 CardVal = Int((52 * Rnd) + 1) 'Set CardVal = to a random number If arrDeck(CardVal) = -1 Then 'Take random slot and see if there is a card 'in it yet. If there isn't it will be = to -1 'if there is it will be equal to a different 'value. arrDeck(CardVal) = CardCount 'There isn't so put current card in that slot CardCount = CardCount + 1 'Increment my card count Else: GoTo 10 'There is so start again from the beginning End If Loop 'Do it all again if < 53 End Sub I'm completely lost and don't know what to do. Can someone please help me make a deck of cards work If you give code, please have it fit with the code above This needs to be done by tomorrow!!
